Mining activities in Meghalaya are a threat to the people and the environment.
These activities are not only the threat to ecologically fragile region but also to the local inhabitant i.e. tribal people. Will the fate of these people be the same as in case of Orissa, Jharkhand and Chattisgarh who were excluded, marginalized and segregated from the developmental processes? The Heinrich Boell Foundation takes the lead in highlighting and addressing these ecological issues which are unsustainable and undemocratic so that not only environment but rights of the local people are also protected and aims to seek local people’s active participation in developmental processes to prevent any resource conflict in the region.
