Christian Conversions

In the wake of a sustained programme of violent attacks by the Hindu Right on Christian missionaries in the recent past, the authors focus on religious conversions to Christianity in India. Didn’t the British use missionaries to convert Hindus? Did the missionaries introduce an atmosphere of religious contentiousness in our country? Aren’t conversions carried out by bribery and fraud? Did Gandhi condemn conversions? What is the Hidutva campaign again missionaries getting at? These issues are addressed through a simple question-response format and a visual text for interested citizens at a time when there is an orchestrated campaign by different Hidutva organizations to make religious intolerance a part of social life in India.
