Perspectives on Energy
It is form ferment of ideas, changes, despair, debates and discussions and concern of certain core issues of ecology, democracy, solidarity and non-violence that HBS came out with a new series of Heinrich Boll Foundation-India Eye to the World Papers. Underlying these ideas is a desire to initiate dialogue among people from diverse background.
The Challenge before the series use to cohere an overview that would bind the range of issues and ideas to the vision of creating a lively political discourse where publication, programmes, activism, internationalism and north-south solidarity could flow into each other.
Our first paper focuses on energy issues as they were manifested in the debates of the World Social Forum 2004. The next paper in this series, written by a prominent environmentalist Chandi Prashad Bhatt, will deal with some burning environmental issues and responses in the Himalayan region. We would like to cover a wide variety of themes, ranging from the nature of dalit politics to conflicts over natural resources, issues of access, participation and control of democratic institutions, to the issues of globalization and WTO that cover the important spaces in our socio-political lives.
