Dr. Biswajit Dhar is former Professor of JNU and Director General of the RIS, a think tank under the MEA. Dr. Dhar has been working extensively on the multilateral trading system for more than two decades. He has been nominated by the Government of India as a member of expert groups for providing advice on trade and development strategies. He was also a member of the official Indian delegation in several multilateral negotiations, including in the WTO Ministerial Conferences. Dr. Dhar has been interacting closely with several institutions that have been involved in working on issues relating to trade and development. Besides institutions based in India, he has been working closely with several inter-governmental organisations. These include the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), the Commonwealth Secretariat and the International Trade Centre (ITC). He has presented research papers in several international and national conferences and has publications in reputed national and international journals.
