Sucharita Dutta-Asane is a writer and independent book editor based in Pune. Her short story collection Cast Out and Other Stories was published by Dhauli Books in 2018. It was included in Amazon’s “Best of Summer from India,2018” and was reviewed widely, including in Sahitya Akademi’s Indian Literature, Sakaal Times, Business Line, Usawa Literary Review, Scroll, Asian Cha, Pune Newsline, among others. The book is part of the Indian Institute of Human Settlements’ (IIHS,Bengaluru) library selection.

The titular story of Sucharita’s collection has been the subject of two research papers: (1) Gender Politics, Menstruating Women and Utopian form of Cultural Resistance: Sucharita Dutta-Asane’s ‘Cast Out’, presented at the IACLALS Annual Conference on “Utopias and Dystopias in Our Times” in collaboration with Janki Devi Memorial College, University of Delhi; and (2)Mapping Postcolonial Representations of Menstruation in Sucharita Dutta-Asane’s“Cast Out and Other Stories”, Women’s Studies Centre, Jadavpur University, Kolkata.

 In 2013, Sucharita received the inaugural Dastaan Award from the Pakistan based Papercuts Magazine for her short story ‘Rear View’. In 2008, she received the Oxford Bookstores debuting writers' award for Jungle Stories.

 Her fiction and nonfiction have appeared in various national and international literary journals and anthologies.

At present, Sucharita edits Red River Story, the fiction imprint of Red River, India.

She also edits fiction at The Bangalore Review, and teaches a postgraduate course in ‘Writing and Editing’ at Symbiosis College of Arts and Commerce, Pune. 

From September2017 to March 2019, she edited Kitaab, the online literary magazine published from Singapore.
